This practical 90-minute session is designed to take the confusion out of becoming self-employed and give clinicians a clear roadmap for building a financially sustainable healthcare business.
Delivered by Hands On Money co-founders Melina Harrison and Jane Greenshields, the session combines real-world experience of running and growing private healthcare practices with straightforward financial and business education.

Participants will learn how to:
- Set themselves up correctly as self-employed
- Understand the difference between operating as a sole trader or limited company
- Set up essential systems including banking, payments, bookkeeping and practice software
- Understand their personal and business costs and calculate how much they need to earn
- Understand basic bookkeeping, tax and Making Tax Digital (MTD)
- Price treatments confidently and avoid undercharging
- Manage fluctuating income and the realities of building a patient base
- Attract and retain the right patients
- Build a practice that works financially while reflecting their own clinical style and values

About Hands On Money
Hands On Money is a financial and business education platform created specifically for self-employed therapists, practitioners and clinic owners. Melina Harrison is co-founder of Hands On Money and Director of The Harrison Clinic in Berkshire. She has more than 20 years’ experience building and running a successful multidisciplinary private clinic and brings extensive practical experience in finance, operations, compliance, marketing and practice growth.
Jane Greenshields is co-founder of Hands On Money and an osteopath who qualified from the British School of Osteopathy in 1997. After many years working as an associate, she established her own clinic and experienced first-hand the transition into running a successful self-employed practice. She is also the founder of CPD Hub and has experience across several other business and property ventures.
Together, Jane and Melina bring a practical, clinician-led approach to helping healthcare professionals understand the numbers behind their business and build a practice that supports both their professional and personal goals.
